History of the Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art - one of the youngest to date museum structures in Belarus. It was created by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus № 704 of June 13, 1997 In September of that year, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus was appointed director of the museum Sharangovich Vasily Petrovich. People's Artist of Belarus, Professor VP Sharangovich for several generations of Belarusian artists - a teacher, head of the Alma Mater. For many years he headed the department of graphics, and later - the rector of the Belarusian State Theatre and Art Institute, now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts. In the areas referred to pr.F.Skoriny, 47 till May 1998 was completed repairs. Opening of the exhibition halls on 18 May of that year, and the first exhibition, entitled "New Collection" has begun an active exhibition of the Museum of Modern Art.

Small by the staff of the team of researchers conducting important work in promoting Belarusian arts, as well as to acquaint viewers with the achievements of the Belarusian arts and abroad.

The museum staff continues to grow creatively, his staff are constantly publishing articles in periodicals, appear on television, participate in creative workshops, speak at conferences.

Many publications in the press, appearances on radio and television about the events held by the museum, said that the museum has been active in promoting the Belarusian art.

The museum's collection now - it's four and a half thousand items, the total area of ​​260 m2 of exhibition halls.

In general, the creation of a new type of museum, as the exhibition and information center, where a new quest in modern art is not only reflected but also the understanding of art criticism is an important step in expanding and developing the cultural area of ​​the country.

In the course of the museum formed his main areas: the collection of collections, the study of contemporary visual process in all its stylistic diversity, the difference between the forms and movements, conferences and symposia, open airs of Modern Art and the holding of a number of other projects. The museum is looking for new forms of promotion of contemporary art and are ready to cooperate actively, as with the Belarusian artists and artists from near and far abroad.

The main objective of the museum is the scientific acquisition of the museum's collection. Determination of the range and scope of the stock assembly is enclosed in the name of the Museum. Therefore, the formation of collections of the Museum of Modern Art is primarily based on the time frame - works of art that are fundamental to the establishment and development of modern types, styles and trends. Considering the genre and species orientation, national and regional identity. But the main criterion for the formation of the museum's collection is the professionalism, talent, matching the scientific concept of the museum, novelty. The collection should reflect the whole range of contemporary art, all the species that exist now, whether it's avant-garde, conceptual art and realism.

Following the main provisions of the policy of collecting, the Museum of Modern Art during the years of its existence, formed six collections:

First Painting

The collection includes works as the most significant and famous Belarusian artists and artists of the middle and younger generations: People's Artist of Belarus Leonid Shchemelev, G.Vashchanka, A.
